Boxes and Bows

It seems that the little boy loved the box better than the gift.

So much so, that he played with it until the corners were rounded and the sides were covered in stickers and drawings.

And now,today, another gift.

Only this new gift didn’t come in a box like on his birthday.

Instead, it was delicately wrapped in a soft flowered blanket.

He tried to guess at the shape.

But it wasn’t like a bulldozer, or a football, or a toy plane.

Didn’t smell like cookies or chocolate.

And he wasn’t even allowed to shake it in order to find out what could possibly be inside.

How much fun could this present be?

But when they sat him on the couch, and finally let him have a peek inside,

He wrapped his arms around her and planted a wet toddler kiss on her one day old head.

Immediately he decided that while he still liked his old cardboard box,

It wasn’t nearly as great as this sweet little girl wrapped in pink ruffles and bows.
